Unocal Closing Two Alaskan Platforms
Monday, November 04, 2002
Unocal is planning to close the Dillion and Baker platforms in Alaska's Cook Inlet. Currently, the platforms only produce 854 barrels per day of oil. Dillon will be shut down by year-end and Baker will be closed by April 2003. Dillon has eight active oil wells and four that are no longer producing. Baker has 10 producing and two inactive oil wells, and one producing and two inactive natural gas wells. Twenty workers will be affected by the platform closures. These workers could either be relocated within the company or laid off with severance. Unocal employs 512 full-time and contract workers in Alaska.
