Cormon Wins Appeal Court Verdict

Cormon Ltd

The Norwegian Appeal Court has announced its verdict in the case between Cormon Ltd and Norsk Hydro ASA with Corrocean ASA. The court acquitted Cormon of patent infringement and invalidated Claim 1 of the Norwegian Patent that was the basis of the action. The verdict set aside an earlier lower court judgment and awarded costs for both hearings to Cormon.

The case centered on claims by Hydro and Corrocean that Cormon had infringed their sand quantification patent, key aspects of which Cormon has always maintained to be invalidated by prior art. The verdict confirms the opinion of the European Patent Office and the UK Patent Office that using Electrical Resistance to measure erosion was not novel at the time of the Norwegian filing.

The verdict clears the way for the sale in Norway of Cormon's technologically superior sand erosion detectors based on CEION® technology.

Cormon is a monitoring solutions company specializing in the oil and gas industry, serving both the upstream and downstream markets. Cormon Ltd is registered in England and has recently expanded its presence in Houston through a wholly owned subsidiary Cormon Inc.
