Cano Limon Pipeline Bombed by Rebels
The Cano Limon pipeline located in a remote section of northeast Colombia was attacked on Wednesday by Marxist rebels. This is the 33rd attack this year on the pipeline which transports 110,000 barrels of oil per day. The Cano Limon field is operated by Occidental Petroleum.
Even though the 490-mile pipeline is shut down for repairs, Ecopetrol says supplies should not be affected as there is sufficient oil in storage at the port of Covenas on the Caribbean coast to meet deliveries. The United States is expected to send special forces to Colombia in January to help train Colombian troops to protect Cano Limon from rebel attacks.
