Norsk Hydro Strikes with Wildcat Well

Norsk Hydro has concluded drilling of wildcat well 35/11-15 S with sidetrack 35/11-15 ST5 in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The objective of the well was to examine the oil and gas potential in a prospect called H-Nord, near the Fram field in the North Sea.

The wells proved a minor oil discovery, and the main well also contained some gas. The wells were not production-tested, but extensive data collection and sampling were carried out.

The licensees will consider producing the discovery by means of tie-in to one of the facilities in the Fram area. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

A total of 14 exploration wells have now been drilled in production license 090. The appraisal wells were drilled to respective total depths of 3177 meters and 2961 meters TVD below the sea surface and were concluded in Upper Jurassic rocks.

The wells were drilled by the Transocean Winner semisub in 363 meters of water. The Transocean Winner will now continue drilling an exploration well in production license 107 at the Njord field on Haltenbanken, also operated by Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS.

The licensees in production license 090 are Norsk Hydro as operator with 25%; Mobil Development Norway AS with 25%; Statoil ASA with 20%; Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS with 15% and Gaz de France Norge AS with 15%.
