Norway Prequalifies Bayerngas as NCS Licensee

Norway's Ministry of Petroleum Energy on Friday prequalified Bayerngas Norge AS as a licensee on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

Bayerngas is an upstream company focusing on exploration for and production of gas. The company was established in 2006 and has 11 employees with technical expertise in its offices at Lysaker in Oslo. Bayerngas is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Bayerngas GmbH.

Bayerngas GmbH was established in 1962 by several German municipal supplier/service companies (Stadtwerke) and is headquartered in Munich. The company owns 1300 km of high-pressure gas pipelines and a large underground gas storage facility. The company has special expertise in the fields of purchase and sale, transport, distribution and storage of gas.

With the aim of bringing competent new players on to the shelf, the Norwegian authorities have established a system for prequalifying both licensees and operators. The basis for establishing this system is to provide the companies with an opportunity to secure an evaluation of their suitability for participation on the NCS before the companies devote significant resources to considering specific business opportunities.
