Forest Oil May Begin Drilling In Cook Inlet Next Year

Forest Oil has plans underway to bring a jackup to Cook Inlet, Alaska next summer to drill two exploration wells. Right now Forest Oil would be the only company utilizing the rig but they would be willing to share the cost with other companies so several exploration wells could be drilled. Mark Myers, director of the Alaskan State Division of Oil and Gas, said having a jackup available for drilling in Cook Inlet next summer is an important development. This is because it can drill exploration wells in areas that cannot be reached by wells drilled directionally from existing production platforms in the inlet, or from locations on land.
