Petrobras Wins Technology Award from FINEP

Petrobras was the winner of the Technological Innovation Award presented by Finep (Federal Government Studies and Projects Financing Department), in the Processing Category. The results of the national competition were announced on September 26th at the Palácio do Itamaraty, in Brasília, where the President of the Republic Fernando Henrique Cardoso was present, along with the Minister of Science and Technology, Ronaldo Sardenberg, and the Foreign Relations Minister, Celso Lafer. The trophy was presented to the Petrobras President, Francisco Gros, by Minister Celso Lafer.

With this award, Petrobras has garnered even more acknowledgment from the scientific community for the technology that it developed and has been applying in its deep-water operations, in the Campos Basin. The winning work, called "Anchoring System in Deep Waters", won the first prize for the award competition in the Southeast, the trophy for which the Company received on August 21, at the Industrial Federation in Espírito Santo. There were 115 others competitors in that category represented by companies and research entities that participated in the regional phase of the competition. Now Petrobras commemorates its victory at the national level, wherein 355 different projects participated.

The work on the anchoring system developed by Petrobras for deep waters was coordinated by the Research and Development Center (Cenpes) of the Company, and prepared in conjunction with other areas of the Company. This pioneering system created by Petrobras guarantees facilities for the production of oil and natural gas in deep waters on an international level to the petroleum industry. Polyester cables were developed, substituting steel chains, which permits the reduction of up to 50% of the weight, which also represents a substantial savings for Petrobras.
