Petrofac's Thain Takes on New Role

Walter Thain has been appointed vice president of sales & marketing for Petrofac Training. Thain joined Petrofac in 2004 from OPTIMA Integrated Energy Services, having previously spent five years working for PGS Production, which is now part of Petrofac, in Aberdeen, U.K.

A chartered engineer with significant oil & gas experience, Thain has held a range of strategic, development and operational roles throughout his career.

As part of the Facilities Management business, Thain has for the last three years been based at Petrofac's UAE headquarters in Sharjah where he has both developed and implemented significant and strategic new business for the company. He played a significant role in securing Petrofac's recent contract award from DPE, wholly owned by the Government of Dubai, to assume responsibility for wells and facilities management for the Emirates' entire offshore assets. For the last nine months, Thain has headed up the transition of that contract with successful transfer achieved as planned on 2nd April.

Within Petrofac Training, Thain assumes overall responsibility for the corporate sales and marketing functions in addition to driving forward a program of infrastructure development in support of the company's strategic and growth objectives.

Thain said of his appointment: "It's an exciting time to be joining Petrofac Training. The past year has seen strong, continuing demand for oil & gas. This, combined with the industry wide issue of skilled resource shortages, has provided us with a platform from which to continue to develop and grow geographically our competence led training solutions.

"Oil & gas is a global industry and Petrofac Training, with its new regional structure spanning from the Americas right across to Asia Pacific, is now in a unique position to provide global solutions for our customers."

Thain, who will continue to be located in the United Arab Emirates, also joins the Board of Petrofac Training International. He represents Petrofac on the board of its joint venture with TTE International.
