MEM Recommends Indepa Carry out Study of Territorial Oil Blocks

Peru's mines and energy ministry (MEM) has recommended the National Institute of Andean, Amazonian and Afro-Peruvian villages (Indepa) carry out studies related to oil blocks that overlap territorial reserves, MEM said in a statement.

The ministry also highlighted the value of establishing strategic alliances between indigenous organizations and the state for such studies.

MEM, Indepa and other state agencies met with indigenous groups in February regarding a new tender of blocks in territorial lands and agreed to establish a working group to develop a technical report on the issue.

The working group's task was scheduled to wrap up on April 4, with final approval of the report and the group's recommendations, which will be released thereafter.
