MB Inspection and RTD Team Up in the North Sea

Two of the biggest names in inspection services for the oil and gas industry are joining forces to meet market demand.

MB inspection and Applus RTD Offshore are entering into a joint venture to offer high quality, integrated inspection services to the offshore oil and gas industry.

After undertaking considerable research into the market, both companies identified the need for another provider in the offshore sector with expertise and experience in specialist non-destructive testing and inspection services, as well as delivery of those services by specialist methods such as rope access.

"Demand for specialist inspection services is outstripping supply and the combined capabilities of our two companies will fill a gap in the market," says Dawn Robertson, sales and marketing manager of MB Inspection. "Already we are looking at three major contracts with a total value of £15 million.

"I am confident that the joint venture will prove attractive to those tendering these contracts as, together, RTD and MB Inspection will offer a much broader service, backed up by RTD's R&D expertise. The quality of technicians delivering inspection services is critical and MB Inspection is committed to ensuring the competence of its people through its own apprentice scheme and training school in Falkirk. The joint venture will therefore offer clients continuity and competence in relation to technicians."

This alliance represents the first stage in a return to the Aberdeen market for Dutch company, RTD, after an absence of over 8 years.

"By teaming up with MB Inspection, we will be able to make a bigger impact in a shorter period of time and capture marketshare much more effectively," says Gary Cruickshank, business development director of Applus RTD. "The two companies complement one another very well and the joint venture will give us the right scale and capability to bid for the biggest future contracts in the industry. RTD will also be pursuing its other activities separately in the North Sea market."

RTD will take up offices within MB Inspection's state-of-the-art facilities at Dyce with immediate effect.
