Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 184 Receives 391 Bids on 323 Tracts

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Region has received 391 bids on 323 tracts from 40 companies in the Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 184. The sum of all bids at the sale totaled $181,551,965.00.

Together, Dominion and Nexen made the highest bid for a block at $8,353,500.00 for Garden Banks 337. Shell bid $3,301,587 on Alaminos Canyon 902, the block with the deepest water depth in the sale.

There were $151.2 million in apparent high bids with Amerada Hess and Kerr-McGee tied for first place on total high bids placed with 45 each. Other high bidders were Pioneer Natural Resources with 40, Shell Offshore with 35, LLOG Exploration with 19, BHP Petroleum with 18, Ocean Energy with 15, ExxonMobil with 14, Gryphon Exploration with 13, and El Paso Production with 12.
