Petrobras Makes Major Discovery in Campos Basin
|Friday, August 09, 2002
Petrobras has made a huge discovery in Campos Basin with reserves estimated to be at approximately 600 million barrels of oil. The original well, 1-ESS-100, was drilled in January 2001 and discovered a column of oil 46 meters thick. In May of this year Petrobras drilled a deviated well, 6-ESS-109D, and discovered a column of oil 120 meters thick. A horizontal extension well, 3-ESS-110HPA, was drilled last month by the Noble Paul Wolff. Well testing resulted in initial production of 3,000 barrels per day of 17 degree API oil with indications that production could reach as much as 20,000 barrels per day. During the next six months two more wells will be drilled to further test the find.
