Rio Negro to Sign 4 Exploration Concessions End-January

The governor of Argentina's Río Negro province Miguel Angel Saiz will sign decrees awarding contracts for four Neuquen basin hydrocarbons blocks in January instead of December as previously planned, provincial hydrocarbons department director Tamara Perez Balda told BNamericas.

Companies that were pre-awarded the concessions will sign the contracts at the end of January, Balda added.

The province in November pre-awarded the Laguna El Loro block to US oil company Cliveden; the Laguna de Piedra block to Korean oil firm Golden Oil; the Loma de Kauffman block to Argentine oil firm Interenergy; and the Cinco Saltos block to Argentine oil firm Pluspetrol.

Estimated investment in the four blocks is expected to reach US$80mn in total over two years, BNamericas previously reported.

The blocks are the first of 18 the province ultimately plans to tender.
