Greenland Sees Increased Interest in Recent Licensing Round

Exxon, Chevron, Husky and DONG have submitted applications for exploration and exploitation licenses offshore West Greenland.

When the time limit for submitting applications in the Disko West Licensing Round 2006 expired on December 15, 2006 the Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum had received 6 applications from the above companies for oil and gas exploration and production license blocks.

Jørgen Waever Johansen the Minister of Minerals and Petroleum says:
"I am very pleased that some of the world largest and most experienced oil companies have decided to invest in exploration of the Greenland oil potential. Several years of intensive marketing have now let to a breakthrough in oil activities in Greenland."

The Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum will process the applications in the month ahead. Licenses will be awarded in March 2007.

Phase 2 of the Disko West Licensing Round will take place from August 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008. Applications in phase two will be processed in the order that they are received. Evaluation of applications in phase 2 will be based on the same criteria as in phase 1.
