Aker Kvaerner Subsea Names New Managing Director
Remi Birkeland, who has nearly 20 years' senior technical and project experience in energy provinces around the world, succeeds Paal Helsing as Managing Director of Aker Kvaerner Subsea. Birkeland also becomes Senior Vice President of the group's controls business stream.
Paal Helsing is transferring to Aker Kvaerner headquarters at Lysaker, Norway, to assume the role of Senior Vice President for Subsea Systems.
Birkeland started his career at Aker Kvaerner Engineering as a systems engineer and most recently held the position of offshore director at Technip, responsible for large engineering, procurement and construction projects in Brazil.
He has also worked in Norway, France and the USA, holds a technical MSc degree from the Norwegian Institute of Technology and an MBA from the graduate business school INSEAD at Fontainebleau, France.
"Aker Kvaerner Subsea has grown significantly over the past 18 months, with employee numbers in Aberdeen increasing by around 45% to reflect a series of significant international contract wins by the group. I am confident the technological innovation and quality delivery that has come to characterize our market offering will see Aker Kvaerner sustain and enhance its activity on a global basis," says Birkeland.
