Nigeria Will Not Withdraw from OPEC

A senior government minister has said that Nigeria will not withdraw from OPEC. Earlier in the week, a newspaper report said the country was considering leaving the cartel. Information Minister Jerry Gana said that the statement was not true true, but he did say that the West African country has been under increasing pressure from the United States to leave OPEC and increase its exports. "The United States is trying to put pressure on us. They are luring us to pull out of OPEC. But we know how our interests would be best served and so we are not going to leave OPEC," Gana said. Nigeria is the sixth-biggest oil exporter in the world and the fifth largest exporter of oil to the United States.
