KPO Launches New Training Program

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) has implemented a new International Management Qualification (IMQ) training program. The program aims at developing managerial skills on the part of local employees of the company.

Roger Fox, KPO General Director, emphasized that, "The education and professional development of Kazakh staff is one of KPO's main priorities. The International Management Qualification (IMQ) training program will allow its participants to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for their further professional growth and development as part of the KPO Nationalization Program".

The program has been accredited by the world famous British Institute of Leadership & Management. The training process will be conducted with the support of the best British tutors.

Nearly 50 KPO staff members who successfully pass through a challenging and strict selection process will be able to obtain an international diploma under the International Management Qualification program. The planned duration of the training program is one and a half years. KPO's average costs per student will be $12,000.

During the signing of the Final Production Sharing Agreement, KPO undertook a commitment for developing a strategy to train Kazakh professionals that are able to effectively manage one of the largest operational processes in the world. Today, there are many talented Kazakh specialists holding key positions in the company. KPO intends to increase the number of Kazakh managers up to 40% by the year 2008.

Overall, the KPO Local Personnel Development Strategy includes criteria that influence the success of KPO's operations both for the short-term and long-term future. The program includes a constant enhancement of the professional qualifications of local staff, as well as the development of their leadership and managerial potential.
