API Recognizes Lloyd's Register Capstone
Lloyd's Register Capstone, Inc. a member of the Lloyd's Register Group, has received a certificate of compliance from independent certification body Exida, confirming that its RBMISM software has been assessed and certified compliant with the relevant requirements of the American Petroleum Institute's Recommended Practice 580, Risk-Based Inspection (API 580). RBMISM is a methodology that prioritizes inspection activities on the basis of risk. The certificate of compliance marks an industry first for a risk-based inspection (RBI) software tool.
API 580 is the recommended practice that describes all vital issues to be considered when implementing an RBI program and provides guidance on developing a program for fixed equipment and piping in the hydrocarbon and chemical process industries.
The compliance process was arduous, first requiring that Lloyd's Register Capstone pass an audit of its software development methodology. Only after passing this audit did the certification body, Exida, begin the process of confirming compliance with API 580.
Dr. William M. Goble, C.F.S.E, Principal Partner of Exida, says, "During the certification process Exida does an assessment of not only the functionality but the software design process. In the case of Lloyd's Register Capstone, the software design process was audited and passed, the actual code was reviewed, and the functional verification testing was witnessed. By doing an assessment of not only the function but the design process, we help the vendor produce a quality package."
"It is very gratifying to have the first software product certified to meet the requirements of API 580 by an independent third party," says John Aller, Lloyd's Register Capstone President. "The certification process by Exida was rigorous and required a robust, comprehensive product and well-managed development process. The RBMISM software team scored high on both accounts."
