PDVSA Developing Submarine to Spot Leaks

Venezuela's state oil firm PDVSA and the university of Carabobo are developing a submarine to spot leaks in underwater pipelines in Maracaibo lake, one of the company's top E&P areas, the company said.

The announcement was made by Ana Elisa Osorio, former environment minister for the Hugo Chavez administration and now PDVSA's corporate manager for environmental and occupational hygiene.

Osorio did not say when the submarine will be deployed.

Maracaibo lake has for decades been confronting a series of environmental issues due to large-scale crude oil and gas production.
