CB&I Wins Award for LNG Expansion Project in Australia
CB&I will be the mechanical erection contractor for construction of a fifth liquefied natural gas (LNG) production train with a design capacity of 4.2 million tons per year. The Phase V expansion will increase the plant's capacity to 15.9 million tons per year, making it one of the single largest LNG complexes in the Asia-Pacific region.
CB&I's work scope for the project includes the installation and hook-up of modular LNG units, as well as structural, mechanical and piping works installation. The Company will mobilize on site in October 2006 and expects to complete its portion of the project in the first quarter of 2008. The on-site work force is expected to peak at about 850 employees.
"We are pleased that Woodside has once again selected CB&I for this major expansion project," said Philip K. Asherman, CB&I's President and CEO. "We were responsible for mechanical erection of the plant's Train 4 expansion, and we are committed to completing this project safely and on schedule."
The six equal participants in the North West Shelf Venture are Woodside Energy Ltd. (operator), BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty. Ltd., BP Developments Australia Pty. Ltd., Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd., Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty. Ltd., and Shell Development (Australia) Proprietary Limited.
