Honduras Aims to Have Updated Hydrocarbons Info in 1Q07
Honduras' energy department aims to have updated information on the country's hydrocarbons potential ready in the first quarter next year, a department official told BNamericas.
Japan's Japex Geoscience Institute already has indexed and cataloged existing energy department information such as geological, drill well and geophysical data. The energy department will hire additional personnel and a consultant to verify the data, some of which goes back 20 years, the official said.
The hiring of new personnel and the consultant is pending the release of government funds, the official added.
In addition, China National Petroleum visited the country earlier this month. The meeting was an initial contact and Honduran officials will wait for the company to review existing information, the official said.
Honduras' government aims to develop the country's hydrocarbons resources to decrease dependence on imports, in particular due to current high prices.
The department is part of the natural resources and environment ministry.
