VWS Westgarth Wins Contracts for FPSO Mondo and FPSO Saxi Batuque
VWS Westgarth, part of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies has been awarded two multi-million dollar contracts by the IHC Gusto / Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) partnership on their FPSO Mondo and FPSO Saxi Batuque projects for the Exxon-Mobil Kizomba C development in Block 15 Angola.
The award is for the supply of combined sulphate removal / wash water membrane packages, of capacity 125,000 BPD / 10,500 BPD on FPSO Mondo and 150,000 BPD / 21,000 BPD on FPSO Saxi Batuque respectively.
The sulphate removal plant is designed to remove sulphates and other divalent ions from injection water to enhance oil recovery using Dow/Filmtec SR90 membranes. The removal of these ions reduces the tendency of barium sulphate and strontium sulphate scale to form in the reservoir. The wash water is used in the crude desalting process.
These are the third and fourth projects of this type to be awarded to VWS Westgarth by SBM, and can be attributed in some manner to the success of the previous SRP projects, FPSO Brasil which was completed in 2001 and FPSO Capixaba which was delivered in December of last year. The plant will be engineered in VWS Westgarth's new offices in East Kilbride in the outskirts of Glasgow where the company's numbers have grown to more than 125 oil and gas industry dedicated staff.
In recognition of the forecast of demand for these systems VWS Westgarth has announced the opening of two new offices, one in Houston Texas, and one in Gloucester, that will add a further
30 technology experienced staff.
VWS Westgarth has been involved in the design and supply of sulphate removal plant since the first commercial installation of the technology in the early 1990's. The addition of these two projects further reinforces the company's position as the global leader in membrane process water injection technology.
