Nexen Completes Operations at Aspen Well in the Gulf of Mexico
Nexen reports that drilling and logging operations on its Aspen development well have concluded. The Aspen field is located in 3,150 feet of water approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans on Green Canyon Block 243. The well was drilled to a depth of 20,691 feet and encountered approximately 160 feet of net pay. Log analysis indicates excellent quality reservoir sands, consistent with the existing producing wells seen in the Aspen field.
We have commenced completion operations and expect the well to come on-stream during the fourth quarter of this year. We anticipate an initial production rate of between 12,000 and 15,000 boe/d from the well. Nexen has a 100% operated working interest in Aspen.
"I am delighted with the results from this well," said Charlie Fischer, Nexen's President and CEO. "Production from this well, followed shortly by new production from our Wrigley gas discovery, will significantly increase our volumes in the Gulf of Mexico. With Buzzard also scheduled to be on-stream late in the year, we remain poised to realize significant production growth in 2007."
