i-Tech Chooses SMD Hydrovision for New ROVs

i –Tech, a Subsea 7 company, has chosen SMD Hydrovision (SMDH) for the supply of a substantial number of new generation work class ROV systems and associated equipment, with options for the supply of further systems.

The 125shp ROVs called "Centurion QX" are an evolution of Subsea 7's well proven Centurion series and will incorporate many components used on SMDH's standard Q-Series range of ROVs including DVECS distributed control and the latest Curvetech propulsion. The systems will be equipped with SMDH Compact Tether Management Systems (TMS) which also use DVECS control technology and innovations for extended tether life. The vehicles will be configured for deepwater operation and handled using SMDH designed and manufactured A-frame and Winch packages.

Accompanying the subsea equipment will be zone rated SMDH ROV control cabins which offer a spacious interior for maximum operator comfort. The DVECS control system permits better use of space by using low profile flat screen video wall technology coupled to the latest high density control computers.

The Centurion QX will be built at SMDH's Turbinia Works premises on the river Tyne in Newcastle, UK. This extensive facility allows multiple systems to be built in parallel and permits complete under cover ROV/TMS/A-frame stack up and wet testing.
