Maintenance for the Girassol Field to Begin Mid-May
Total plans to halt production at its Girassol field offshore Angola in mid-May to expand output capacity.
A new oilfield, Rosa, will be tied in to Girassol's production vessel. Rosa will allow Girassol to maintain output capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
Production could be shut down until mid to late June.
The field is located approximately 200 kilometers from shore in approximately 1,400 meters of water in the Gulf of Guinea.
Total is the operator of the field with a 40% stake. ExxonMobil, BP, Norsk Hydro and Statoil are also participants.
