Cuttings Dryer System Credited with Recovering $4.5 Million Worth of Oil
Since its installation five years ago, a uniquely engineered M-I SWACO drill cuttings dryer system has recovered more than $4.5 million worth of commercial grade oil in the Sahara Desert of Algeria.
At the heart of the operation is the VERTI-G* cuttings dryer that incorporates a high-speed vertical centrifuge designed to achieve maximum liquid/solid separation in large-volume processing. In addition to the dryer, the drilling waste management package includes a SWACO 414 centrifuge, a screw conveying system and fluid flushing and recovery tanks.
To date, the operation has been used on more than 147 wells where it has recovered more than 84,000 bbl of oil-base drilling fluid.
Based in Houston, TX, M-I SWACO, which is jointly owned 60% by Smith International, Inc. (NYSE, PSE:Sii) and 40% by Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB), is a leading supplier of drilling, reservoir drill-in, completion and production fluids products/systems and solids control and drilling waste management services for the global petroleum industry.
