Talisman Finds Additional Reserves with 15/12-16 S Well
Talisman Energy Norge AS, operator of production license 038, has proven additional petroleum resources in the 15/12-12 Rev discovery (previously called 15/12-12 Varg South). The discovery is located 6 kilometers south of the Varg field.
The appraisal well 15/12-16 S was drilled the Maersk Giant in 87 meters of water, to a total depth of 2921 meters below sea level. The well was concluded in rocks of Late Jurassic age. A successful production test was carried out, yielding maximum production rates of 1.2 million Sm3 gas and 332 Sm3 condensate per day through a 72/64 inch nozzle opening.
The appraisal well proved interesting additional resources. Data collection from the well provides good information for further evaluation with regard to development. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate estimates that the discovery holds at least 0.5 billion Sm3 of recoverable gas. The licensees in the production license will now proceed with planning activities aimed at developing this discovery on the Varg South structure.
The well will be temporarily plugged and abandoned for future use as a producer. The Maersk Giant will now move on to drill appraisal well 7/8-5 for Talisman on the 7/8-3 discovery northwest of the Ula Field in the North Sea.
The licensees in production license 038 are Talisman Energy Norge AS as operator with 65%; Petoro AS with 30% and Pertra ASA with 5%.
