Accident at PPL Shipyard

PPL Shipyard

At approximately 9.35 a.m. on April 4th, a ringer crane was performing a normal shipyard lifting operation at PPL Shipyard. While positioning the load, the boom of the crane collapsed.

This accident resulted in three fatalities involving a Singaporean, one Indian national and one Chinese national. A fourth worker, a Bangladeshi national, was injured and taken to the hospital. He is in stable condition.

As the shipyard is presently assisting the authorities with the investigation into the cause of the accident, the shipyard is unable to provide more details at this preliminary stage.

The management and staff are saddened by the accident and as a matter of priority are presently doing all they can to assist the families of the workers who are affected by this unfortunate accident.
