Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner Stepping Up Growth Plans for Subsea Business

Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner in Aberdeen is stepping up its subsea business with aggressive growth plans which would see a five fold increase in its subsea engineering business in the next five years.

This will be delivered through its division, Subsea Solutions, which has been expanded and is now headed up by Alan Brunnen.

With 24 years experience in the subsea sector, Brunnen is leading a team of over 120 engineers working on various projects, mainly on the Atlantic margin and in the North Sea. The company is now harnessing its North Sea expertise and promoting it more widely, offering clients innovative and responsive solutions to subsea challenges.

"Quite simply subsea is the way forward for the oil and gas industry," says Brunnen. "The advances in technology mean that viably extracting the reserves in many of the world's oil and gas provinces will be through subsea development. We believe we can increase our business five fold by 2010 and are gearing up to achieve this. This will primarily be achieved by organic growth and a broadening of our scope of supply although we will be looking at strategic acquisitions which will open new geographical markets"

Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner has bolstered the Subsea Solutions team with the appointment of an engineering manager, installation and commissioning manager and an HSEQ manager. It is also looking to recruit experienced project managers, and a wide range of subsea engineers.

Brunnen believes that it will achieve its projected growth figures through offering a more innovative approach based on the provision of a managed service which adds value to the customer by delivering against key requirements.

Subsea Solutions delivers the full subsea package to operators from conceptual and feed engineering, execution, installation and commissioning through to reliability management, operations support, data warehousing and preparedness response. This service can be delivered in its entirety or as individual packages.

Before undertaking independent consultancy work for two years, Brunnen was Chief Operating Officer for Stolt Offshore where he was responsible for global business development, six regional managing directors, the FPSO and subsea construction product lines and health and safety. He began his career with Subsea Offshore working on offshore diving ships and ROV survey vessels all over the world, eventually coming onshore as a project manager in 1987.

Subsea Solutions is part of Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner which provides life of field services to the oil and gas industry. Subsea Solutions will work closely with Aker Kvaerner Subsea, the business unit which manufactures and supplies subsea equipment.
