DNV Opens Office in Libya

On February 1st DNV's office in Tripoli will was officially opened. In connection with this event, a professional two-day seminar is being held for representatives from the oil and gas industry in Libya.

The sanctions regime imposed on Libya in the past by the United States and the United Nations has to a large degree now been withdrawn. As a consequence, western oil companies – large and small - are lining up to invest in the country. DNV is no exception, wishing to assist the oil and gas industry players in safeguarding life, property and the environment in Libya as it does worldwide in some 100 countries.

Libya is currently considered by many energy analysts to be one of the most attractive oil and gas producing countries in the world. The political and economic situation is stable and the Libyan oil is generally of a fair quality.

DNV's Country Manager Dines Haslund and Business Development Manager Jan Anders Solli have been in place in Tripoli since August last year, setting up the office and its operations.

Sustainable business
In connection with the official opening of the DNV office, a two-day professional conference is taking place. Topics include environmental impact assessment, system certification, sustainable business issues, risk management, operability review/asset operation, pipelines and SHE matters.

The first day of the conference is for general managers only, and the second day is designed for operation managers, exploration and production managers, maintenance, drilling, SHE and training managers. Participation on the seminars is by invitation only.

"We are really looking forward to this opening ceremony", says DNV's country manager Dines Haslund in a comment. "This is a great opportunity for us to tell our oil and gas clients what we will be doing in Libya, and for our potential clients to understand what our large pool of experts which may well be useful to our clients in Libya as well".
