Beach Petroleum Spuds Udacha-1

Beach Petroleum reports that the Udacha-1 well, located in a unitized area which straddles the boundary between PEL 91 and PEL 106 in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin, has been spud.

Gas Field and 17 kilometers east of the Sellicks Oil Field. The well will test the hydrocarbon potential of a faulted anticlinal closure at the Patchawarra level. Secondary potential exists in the Toolachee and Epsilon formations and Tirrawarra Sandstone. Its planned total depth is 2775 meters and the well is expected to take about 19 days to drill and evaluate.

Participants in the Udacha-1 well are Beach Petroleum as operator with 15%; Great Artesian Oil & Gas with 32.5%; Magellan Petroleum Australia with 30%; Enterprise Energy NL with 12.5%; and Rawson Resources with 10%. Magellan and Rawson's participation is subject to commercial discovery.

After drilling Udacha-1, the Century 3 rig will move some 5km southwest to drill Middleton-1 (Beach 50%*, Great Artesian Oil and Gas 50%), in PEL 106. This well is expected to spud on or about February 5, 2006.
