Subsea Engineering Consultancy Grows Down Under
Subsea engineering consultancy, MCS, has appointed Enda O'Sullivan to head up its business in Australia where, the company says, the offshore sector is booming.
The subsea engineering consultancy has invested in an office in Perth which was opened earlier this year and is already reaping rewards with the award of several major projects.
"This is the most challenging, yet exciting time in deepwater field development worldwide," says O'Sullivan "And Australia is not immune to the offshore project frenzy. In fact multiple projects are emerging in parallel in a region where historically projects emerged one at a time.
"It is an exhilarating time to be working in the floating production industry in which MCS' riser and subsea technology is a valuable commodity."
Formerly vice president for MCS in Houston, O'Sullivan takes up his new position of operations director in Australia this month. With over 15 years engineering experience, O'Sullivan joined MCS in 1992 spending six years in Aberdeen as general manager and then four years in Houston.
The company which specializes in subsea and riser systems believes that the Perth office will play a major role in its international growth and the initial five-strong team will soon double. MCS currently employs 100 people and has a network of offices including Aberdeen, Houston, Rio de Janeiro and Galway. The company is gearing up to double its turnover in the next five years.
"We are already working with some of the key players in Australia such as Woodside, BHP Billiton, OMV and Apache. Firmly recognized as leaders in the subsea riser market. The Australians are looking to capitalize on those on lessons learnt and innovations developed in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico.
"We will obviously be focusing on this core part of our business but, with life extension of existing fields, there will also be opportunities for our integrity management and flow assurance services as well as our software products."
An engineering company working in the offshore oil and gas subsea sector, MCS provides services ranging from conceptual studies through to detailed design and verification and integrity management services in the areas of flexible risers and flowline systems, steel catenary risers, drilling risers and mooring systems.
