Petrobras Says Campos Basin Oil Spill Under Control
Petrobras reports that an oil slick was detected Thursday, in the vicinity of the transportation system in the center-south region of the Campos Basin oil field, close to platform PCE-1. Production at this system was immediately diverted to other transportation systems and the leakage consequently eliminated. Support vessels and a helicopter were brought in to estimate the extension of the slick and the volume of oil spilled. Preliminary estimates indicate approximately 30 cubic meters of oil (30,000 liters).
Petrobras’ Emergency Plan was brought into action, with the participation of two oil spill containment and oil skimmer vessels, three support vessels and one vessel for inspecting the equipment and determining the cause of the accident. A helicopter continues active in the region to monitor and control these actions.
The appropriate authorities have been duly informed of the occurrence.
