Leirvik Module to Provide Living Quarters for Aker's New Build Semisubs

Leirvik Module Technology has been awarded an EPC contract from Aker Kvaerner for delivery of four living auarters to Aker Drilling's H6e drilling rigs.

The contract includes delivery of two plus two Living Quarters where each Living Quarters is 2600 square meters and contains 140 single cabins together with all necessary facilities for operation of the hotels.

There is an option in the contract for Aker Kvaerner to cancel two of the Living Quarters. The total contract value is approx 600 million NOK. The Living Quarters will be constructed in aluminum. Low weight, zero maintenance cost and environmental motives have been the most important reasons for the Clients choice of material.

This will be the first Living Quarters in aluminum of this size for Drilling rigs worldwide. The H6 rigs will also be the first Drilling Rigs with only single cabins. This new generation Drilling Rigs will be designed and constructed based upon extensive environmental requirements. This also include that all personnel onboard shall have a safe and comfortable working place.

Planning and design engineering starts immediately and prefabrication of aluminum will start during first half of 2006.

This will be a Norwegian product where all prefabrication and assembly will be performed on Stord. The modules shall be delivered at Aker Kvaerner Stord and completed after installation on the platform deck.

For Leirvik Module Technology, who is celebrating its 60 years anniversary next year, this is the biggest and most important contract ever.

Basic employment is ensured for the next 4 years with approximately 100 man-labor years per year. The last of the four living quarters shall be completed spring 2010.
