Arc Energy disappointed with Jingemia 9

ARC Energy Limited advises that the appraisal well Jingemia 9, operated by ARC and located in the onshore Perth Basin Production Licence L2, has reached total depth of 2,814 metres measured depth and current operations as at 0600 WST are conducting wireline logging.

Jingemia 9 is a side-track of Jingemia 7, and was drilled to determine the structural configuration of the northern part of the Jingemia Field.

The Dongara Sandstone reservoir objective was encountered some 10 metres below the assumed oil water contact of the Jingemia Oil Field and despite being of good quality, was water bearing.

The forward program for the well will be decided once the logging program has been completed

Managing Director’s comment:

“A clearer understanding of the implications of the data obtained to date from the Jingemia 9 well will require the additional data to be obtained from the currently drilling Jingemia 6 well and the planned Jingemia 5 well. This work will be undertaken as results of the current drilling program are received and integrated into the geological model.
Whilst we are disappointed with this result as we had hoped the well would confirm the upside case for the Field, our experience in other fields in the area including Hovea, Dongara and Cliff Head means we are prepared to be challenged by the results of appraisal drilling and we are used to having to deal with uncertainties in seismic interpretation and unexpected velocity variations."

Participants in Jingemia 9 and L1 and L2 (excluding the Dongara, Mondarra and Yardarino fields) are:
  • ARC Energy Limited - 50% (Operator)
  • Origin Energy Developments Pty Ltd - 50% (a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Energy Limited)
