Gazprom To Develop Northern Gas Fields
Gazprom has plans to develop new natural gas fields in the far north Yamal region of Russia. This would increase the annual natural gas output to approximately 530 billion cubic meters through 2010. Gazprom has not yet released 2001 production results. In 2000, its output totaled 523.2 bcm, accounting for 94% of Russian and 23% of global natural gas output.
In the first quarter of this year, Gazprom plans to draft an exploration program for 2002 through 2008 to study deposits in the Yamal region, including fields in the Ob and Tazov areas as well as the Yamal sea banks. These deposits could contain total gas reserves of 2.5 trillion cubic meters.
