Petronas and Bahrain Develop Offshore Exploration Program
A contingent from Petronas held talks over the weekend with Bahraini officials on oil and gas exploration offshore Bahrain. Petronas and Bahraini oil officials agreed during the talks on a program for Petronas to start drilling in Bahraini territorial waters. No further details are available at this time.
Last year Bahrain chose ChevronTexaco and Petronas to drill for oil and gas after the World Court settled a long-standing border dispute with neighboring Qatar. Petronas signed its first production sharing contract for exploration in November during a visit by Bahrain's Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Sulman al-Khalifa to Kuala Lumpur. ChevronTexaco said it would drill the first well by the end of 2002.
