Deepwater Specialists Wins Contract for Okume Complex TLPs
Deepwater Specialists Inc., a subsidiary of John Wood Group PLC, has been contracted by MODEC International to provide commissioning management services for Amerada Hess Equatorial Guinea, Inc.'s Okume Complex tension leg platforms.
Under the terms of the contract, DSI will provide commissioning management personnel for the pre-commissioning of both platforms and the commissioning of the ballast and utility systems, which are being built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. Commissioning planning activities commenced in April in Houston; mobilization to South Korea for the pre-commissioning and dynamic commissioning stages is expected to occur in Q4 2005. DSI's newly developed Commissioning Certification Management System will be used to track all commissioning activities.
"We are extremely pleased to have been selected to provide commissioning support to MODEC for these facilities," stated Phillip Landry, president of DSI. "Effective commissioning is designed to prove the integrity of operating and safety systems to ensure that both assets and personnel are protected. DSI's extensive experience in deepwater commissioning helps clients such as MODEC to mitigate start-up risks and avoid cost and schedule overruns."
The Okume Complex TLPs will be installed offshore Equatorial Guinea in Q2 2006, with first oil planned for Q4 2006. The TLPs have similar capabilities, having been designed to support 18 top tensioned production or water injection risers and a tender-assist drilling unit. Okume F TLP, to be installed in 900 feet of water, has been designed for capacities of 25,000 BOPD, 30,000 BWPD and 30 MMscf/D. The Okume E TLP, which will be installed in 1650 feet of water, will be capable of producing 25,000 BOPD, 50,000 BWPD, and 30 MMscf/D.
MODEC's project manager stated: "DSI brings valuable experience to the MODEC team, and MODEC anticipates a successful commissioning program under the guidance and use of commissioning management systems utilized by DSI."
Detailed engineering, procurement support and construction field support for the Okume Complex topsides is being provided by Alliance Wood Group Engineering.
