Talisman Applies for Consent to Use Varg Facilities
Talisman Energy Norge has applied for consent to use the facilities on the Varg field (production license 038). The company's application for approval as new operator of the field is currently being processed in the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (ASD).
The Varg field was previously operated by Norsk Hydro and, most recently, by Pertra AS.
Talisman Energy (UK) Limited took over Pertra's ownership interests on February 28, 2005, and Pertra AS changed its name to Talisman Production Norge AS. The company Talisman Energy Norge AS (TENAS) wants to take over as the new operator of the Varg field.
The Varg field is situated south of Sleipner Øst. The field has been developed with an unmanned wellhead installation combined with a production facility (production ship) with integrated storage for oil.
The facilities are connected by means of flexible pipelines for oil production, water and gas injection, as well as a cable for power and control functions. The oil is offloaded from the production facility to shuttle tankers.
We have granted TENAS consent to use the facilities on Varg under the assumption that the MPE approves the change in operator. The consent also applies to exploration and use of the Maersk Giant on the field.
