Beacon Maritime to Refurbish Songa Jupiter Jackup

Beacon Maritime has been awarded a $25M contract from Songa Drilling AS for the reconstruction and enhancement of the independent leg, self-elevating drill rig, "Songa Jupiter".

Currently located in Sabine Pass, the "Songa Jupiter" is a Friede Goldman L-780 design that was constructed in Sweden in 1981 and suffered severe damage in a well fire in 1986. Major characteristics of the enhancement phase of the project include 300' water-depth capability, new 96-man accommodations, new 7400 HP Caterpillar power-plant, three mud-pumps, updated semi-automatic drilling package from Maritime Hydraulic and zero discharge. Delivery date is scheduled for the first quarter of 2006.
