Nabors Selects Direcway to Provide Satellite Service

Hughes Network Systems, the world's largest provider of broadband satellite network solutions, and Nabors Industries, Inc., announced a contract under which HNS will implement a comprehensive DIRECWAY(TM) broadband by satellite service at 200 oilrigs to lower operating costs and improve efficiency.

"Oilrigs have critical data and other information that has until now been transmitted over a mobile network, which is very costly," said Sri Valleru, chief information officer for Nabors Industries. "We needed a more cost effective way to communicate essential information."

"DIRECWAY enables us to efficiently and economically broadcast simultaneous digital transmission to our widespread locations," added Valleru. "With over 500 rigs onshore and offshore in our global fleet, dispersed among some 20 countries, it's an appealing prospect to maintain a cost-effective broadband communications network that can be deployed at any time regardless of location."

Under the terms of the contract, Hughes will implement 200 oilrigs with DIRECWAY services, which support any mix of data and multimedia content delivery with two-way connectivity. The oilrigs will also get DIRECTV(R) programming from the same satellite dish, made possible through DIRECWAY's DirecDUO appliance.
