Bluewater Energy Awarded SPM Contract

Vopak ENOC Fujairah Ltd. has awarded Bluewater Energy Services B.V. and Van Oord ACZ B.V. a contract for the design, supply and installation of a Single Point Mooring (SPM) system and related pipelines at the Vopak ENOC Fujairah terminal in the United Arab Emirates.

The contract calls for Bluewater to provide and install a complete SPM system in about 25 meters of water at a site 3 km offshore U.A.E. and near the port of Fujairah, including the square turret catenary anchor leg mooring (CALM) buoy, the pipeline end manifold, submarine and floating hoses, and twin 24-inch onshore-offshore pipelines. The project will increase the number of tanker berths from two to three at the terminal and enable the facility to load and offload tankers up to 175,000 dwt.

Bluewater's consortium partner Van Oord ACZ B.V. is to design and install the pipelines, install the CALM buoy and tie in the new facilities to the terminal's onshore manifold by August 2002.

"Vopak chose the CALM buoy concept over a jetty extension as a more cost-effective and faster solution", Bluewater President Hugo Heerema said. "Our turret buoy design increases loading and offloading efficiency for tankers by minimizing maintenance and downtime while safely maximizing throughput."
