State-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corp., or EGPC, has attracted strong interest from international oil companies for its tender of 15 oil and gas exploration blocks, a senior official at EGPC said Monday.
EGPC launched in May its first international 2004 bid round for the 15 blocks located in the Nile Delta area, the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez under a production-sharing agreement. The blocks cover a total area of about 30,800 square kilometers.
"We received bids from 34 international oil companies. Bids came from Southeast Asia, Japan in addition to European and American oil companies already operating in Egypt," the EGPC official said.
The tender's closing date was Sept. 28.
