David A. Trice Named Chairman of Newfield

Newfield Exploration's Board of Directors named David A. Trice to the additional role of Chairman of the Board. The announcement was made by Newfield's founder and outgoing Chairman, Joe B. Foster, at the John S. Herold Energy Conference in Greenwich, CT. Effective immediately, Trice will add the additional responsibilities of Chairman to his current position as President and Chief Executive Officer.

"As President and CEO, David has done an excellent job of leading Newfield over the last four years. During this time, Newfield has successfully diversified its asset base and added new focus areas that provide a platform for future, profitable growth. This is recognition and responsibility that David has truly earned, and I am very proud for him and for Newfield," said Foster.

Trice was named President and CEO and elected to Newfield's Board of Directors in February 2000. Prior to that time, he was President and COO from May 1999 through February 2000 and Vice President Finance & International from May 1997 though May 1999. Prior to rejoining the Company, he served as President, CEO and a Director of Huffco Group, Inc. from 1991 through May 1997. As one of the founders of Newfield, Trice served as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and a Director from 1989-91. From 1980-89 he served as an officer of several companies owned by Roy M. Huffington, Inc., and from 1973-80 he was an attorney with an Atlanta law firm. Trice is currently serving on the Boards of Directors of Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc., Grant Prideco, Inc. and New Jersey Resources. Trice received a J.D. from Columbia University's School of Law and a B.A. in Managerial Science from Duke University.
