Parker Rig 216 Arrives in Kazakhstan
Parker Drilling Company reports that land rig 216 has arrived at the Karachaganak field in northern Kazakhstan and is being rigged up to commence drilling in mid-October under a three-year contract for Karachaganak Petroleum Operating BV. Once this rig commences drilling, Parker Drilling will have six land rigs operating in the country of Kazakhstan and one drilling barge in the northeastern sector of the Caspian Sea, while continuing to provide project management services for two land rigs belonging to a customer in the country.
"Our customers in Kazakhstan have told us that it is 'business as usual' for their drilling activities in that country," said Robert L. Parker Jr., president and chief executive officer of Parker Drilling Company. "One of our customers has just committed to spend more than $1 million for additional
equipment on one of our land rigs." Elsewhere around the world, the company's land and offshore barge rigs continue to operate and personnel movements have returned to normal.
