“I had to get past thinking I was being selfish … and understand that all the people around you may not be there for you to lean on,” she said.

Hohman also had to learn how to pull back.

“I had to really rely on other people, especially because I was completely immobilized. My coping strategy was to pull myself back and let people take over for me,” she said. “I had to be reminded that it makes people feel good to help you.”

Each woman’s testimony was different, but all courageous and inspiring. They’re truly examples of ‘good things don’t come easy.’ And perhaps that’s why they’re most rewarding.
