UK Energy Secretary Pledges Allegiance to Paris Agreement
The UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Greg Clark, has pledged allegiance to the Paris Agreement, following US President Donald Trump’s decision to back out of the deal.
UK played a major role in securing Paris Agreement and we are committed to it. Clean growth a key pillar of our modern industrial strategy.— Greg Clark (@GClarkUK) 1 June 2017
In a statement on Twitter, Clark said clean growth was a ‘key pillar’ of the UK’s modern industrial strategy.
The Paris Agreement, reached at COP21 in December 2015, aims to limit global warming to ‘well below 2 degrees celsius’ by phasing out inefficient and emission-heavy fuel sources.
Due to its relatively clean nature, gas has been touted as a fuel that can help the eventual transition to renewable energy sources.
