Ex-Oil Workers Look to Grow Aberdeen Brewery, Employ More Ex-Energy Staff

Ex-oilfield workers Dave Grant and Dave McHardy, who opened a brewery in Aberdeen after leaving the sector, are looking to expand their business and employ more ex-energy industry staff in 2017.

Grant and McHardy began their Fierce Beer brand as a home-brew hobby in March 2013 on Great Western Road, Aberdeen. They first tested their creation on the public May 1, 2015 at a beer pairing dinner at a local restaurant.

“The reviews were so good that a few months later Fierce Beer Ltd was born. We started to sell kegs to Aberdeen clients from a nano-brewery in our house,” Fierce Beer Ltd said in a statement on its website.

On April 1, the business moved into a new microbrewery in Dyce and is currently performing well, according to Grant, who used to be a director at UK-based oil and gas services company Expro Group. McHardy worked for another UK-based oilfield services firm, Veripos.

The partners are now looking to grow their business and told Rigzone they would be open to employing more ex-energy industry workers.

“We both left [the oil sector] of our own accord, disheartened with the industry, and we loved brewing,” Grant told Rigzone.

I think this is great. I have been lucky in that I still have a job in the oil and gas industry of course who knows for how long. I am happy your venture is working for you, best of luck to you both. I hope one day soon to be able to sample your brew.
