SNP Calls for Clarity for Oil Workers, Investments amid Brexit Uncertainty

The government must put the oil and gas supply chain “at the heart” of strategies for future Government investment plans and secure the status of EU nationals working within the industry, SNP (Scottish National Party) energy spokesperson Callum McCaig MP said.
In a statement sent to Rigzone, McCaig questioned if the sector will be shown the same promotion and support regularly given to the UK aviation and automotive industries as future areas of growth and went on to seek assurances from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy over the future of EU nationals working across the oil and gas supply chain in the North East of Scotland and elsewhere in the UK.

“The world class oil and gas industry and its exceptional supply chain stretches the length of this country, and the UK Government needs to be careful to remember businesses within these sectors have plans and the potential to grow and expand but they need support to do that,” McCaig said.
“Businesses have repeatedly called for clarity on the future of their employees, but so far we have yet to see a concrete policy implemented by the Tory government. Loose promises and commitments have been made by May and her cabinet, but experiences over the past few months have made it difficult to take the Tories at their word,” he added.
