Oil Search Ltd. revealed Thursday that field operator Repsol S.A. has plugged and abandoned the Strickland 2 exploration well in Petroleum Retention Lease (PRL) 269 in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG) located west of the Juha Gas Field.

The field operator found that the Darai Limestone at Strickland 2 was found to be water bearing, Oil Search said in a media release.

Rig 103, which was used for drilling at Strickland 2, was then skidded to the Strickland 1 location in the same block, where it spud the well June 16. Oil Search added that Strickland 1 well was drilling ahead in a 17.5 inch hole through the Darai Limestone.

Respol holds a 50 percent interest in PRL 269, while Barracuda Ltd. owns a 30 percent stake. Oil Search and Diamond Gas Foreland 269 B.V. each hold 10 perent interest.
